Because Priestley was a Bradford man who never lost his roots with that great Yorkshire city and who retained a love of the Yorkshire Dales throughout his life it was entirely appropriate that when the Society was established in 1997, with the encouragement and active support of his son Tom Priestley, it should be based in Bradford. But because he was a national and, indeed, an international figure the Society seeks to attract members from throughout the world. Its aims are threefold: |
To widen the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Priestley's literary and other published works; To promote the study of his life and career, and the social, cultural and political forces which influenced him; and To provide the members of the Society with opportunities to share experiences and knowledge of his works, life and career. |
The Society intends to promote these aims in a number of ways, in particular |
To hold lectures, seminars or other events, and to exhibit films or video-cassettes either separately or in conjunction with such events; To publish journals or other written material; To promote the production, distribution, exhibition or sale of books, films, photographs or other material associated with Priestley; To promote public performance of his work; and To stimulate or assist with education projects relating to his life and work. |
Membership can be taken out by completing the application form and returning it with the necessary remittance to the address indicated. |
